Position Overview:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee multiple engagements and address the tax needs of a diverse client base.
  • Mentor and supervise staff, preparing them for leadership roles within the firm.
  • Lead engagement planning, organization, delegation, and ensure productivity and goal attainment.
  • Manage the preparation and issuance of tax returns in compliance with professional standards and firm policies.
  • Hold team members accountable for engagement objectives and deliverables.
  • Maintain direct communication with clients, colleagues, management, and IRS representatives regarding tax matters.
  • Manage client relationships, including billing, collections, and ensuring team profitability.
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive tax practice, including strategic planning and execution.
  • Drive business development efforts in Chicago by meeting prospective clients, preparing proposals, and evaluating client needs.
  • Oversee department knowledge of software, workflows, and processes, ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Support employee development through training for new hires and ongoing professional growth.
  • Participate in consulting and special projects as needed.
  • Report directly to the firm’s Managing Partner(s).

Qualifications:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and tax software.
  • Demonstrated success in managing client and staff relationships effectively.

Education and Experience:

  • CPA certification (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Tax (required).
  • Minimum of 8 years of tax compliance experience within a public or private CPA firm.
  • Experience with financial statements for public or private companies.
