Position Overview

The VDC Engineer plays a key role in supporting virtual construction needs across Preconstruction, Construction Operations, and Consulting/Litigation Support Services. This role requires a self-motivated, adaptable, and dedicated professional who thrives on taking on new challenges. The VDC Engineer is a power user of Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) software and works closely with teams to develop, refine, and implement Building Information Models (BIM) and other digital construction technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate 3D object-oriented models for construction projects
  • Create 5D visual simulations by integrating BIM+TIME+COST using Navisworks or Synchro
  • Perform clash detections to identify and resolve design conflicts
  • Conduct 3D scanning using Trimble 3D scanners and layout work with Trimble Robotic Total Station
  • Process job cost data, model-based quantity reports, and as-built project control information for risk analysis and historical reference
  • Generate formwork, concrete lift, and placement drawings for horizontal and vertical control
  • Support Preconstruction and Business Development teams by producing photorealistic imagery using Artlantis and other rendering engines
  • Manage project documents, including RFIs, submittals, PCOs, and Notices of Change (NOC)
  • Process and register raw 3D point cloud scan files using Trimble REALWORKS, Scene, Rythm, or similar software
  • Produce as-built models from scan files using TEKLA Structures or equivalent software
  • Convert and refine 3D model files or scanned point clouds to create 3D printable objects using Materialise Magics and SpaceClaim
  • Conduct constructability and completeness reviews and issue/manage RFIs
  • Assist in additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 2+ years of experience in the building or design industry preferred but not required
  • Understanding of VDC and BIM concepts
  • Exposure to and preliminary experience with BIM software such as:
    • Autodesk Revit
    • Bentley
    • Vico Constructor
    • TEKLA
    • Synchro
    • Navisworks
    • SketchUp
    • Or similar software suites
  • High proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and BlueBeam
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Creative thinker with a proactive and adaptable mindset
