Senior Cost Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

Their expertise lies in high-quality engineering and project management, ensuring customized solutions that meet the specific needs of each client.
They are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cost Estimator to join their team. This role involves developing detailed and accurate cost estimates for projects across their diverse portfolio. The Senior Cost Estimator will play a critical role in project planning, budgeting, and financial forecasting, ensuring all project costs are effectively managed and aligned with client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Estimation
- Develop and maintain comprehensive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including bridges, tunnels, rail, and utilities.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify key cost factors and potential risks.
- Collect and evaluate cost data from multiple sources, including vendors, suppliers, and historical project data.
Project Management (Mid-Level Position)
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources for structural and geotechnical projects.
- Coordinate with public transportation agencies such as the MBTA and MassDOT to ensure compliance with agency requirements.
- Oversee project execution, monitor progress, and address any issues or changes that arise.
Collaboration
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to develop cost-effective solutions and strategies.
- Liaise with stakeholders and agencies to ensure project goals and requirements are met.
Cost Control and Reporting
- Monitor and track project costs throughout the project lifecycle, providing regular updates and forecasts.
- Prepare and present detailed cost reports, highlighting key findings and cost management recommendations.
Risk Management
- Identify and assess potential cost and project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay up to date with industry trends, cost estimation methodologies, and best practices to enhance estimation accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Cost Estimator/Analyst – CCEA) is a plus.
Experience
- Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in cost estimation within the heavy civil construction industry, focusing on bridges, tunnels, rail, and utilities.
- Mid-level project management experience with an emphasis on structural or geotechnical projects.
- Familiarity with public transportation agencies, including MBTA and MassDOT.
Skills
- Proficiency in cost estimation software and tools.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage project budgets and develop accurate cost estimates.
