Position Overview
We are seeking a Bridge Estimator to join our expanding Bridge Division at our Kensington, CT office. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a newly established department, refine processes, build key relationships, and influence the future of our bridge projects.
As a Bridge Estimator, you will be responsible for accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for all direct and indirect items on bridge projects. You will manage bid schedules, coordinate with subcontractors and vendors, and work closely with the Chief Estimator to ensure competitive and complete bid submissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and oversee detailed takeoffs and cost estimates for assigned projects from inception through bid closeout, following company processes and procedures.
- Review bid documents thoroughly and verify compliance with addenda or modifications.
- Communicate with clients and stakeholders to clarify project scope, resolve discrepancies, and prepare or respond to RFIs.
- Manage the pre-bid schedule and coordinate internal review milestones.
- Maintain organized and accurate bid files and documentation.
- Ensure proper setup of labor rates, bond rates, insurance, and other project-specific data within HCSS.
- Collaborate with the Chief Estimator and other estimating staff through bid submission.
- Support budget preparation, DBE selection, and documentation for awarded projects.
- Lead project turnover meetings to transition projects to operations teams.
- Assist with department development by supporting tasks outside the traditional estimating scope when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a construction-related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an estimator on projects valued over $20M.
- Minimum 2 years of design/build experience on public or civil projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including experience with computerized takeoff and design programs.
- Experience with HCSS, Bluebeam, and Tekla preferred.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and contribute as an integral team member.
