About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our dedicated family law practice in the Lakewood Ranch/Sarasota area. This is a full-time, onsite position working closely with our managing attorney and senior paralegal to ensure that every client receives outstanding representation and compassionate support during one of the most challenging times in their lives.

As a Legal Assistant, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the firm. You will handle a wide variety of administrative and legal support tasks to keep cases moving forward smoothly and efficiently. This includes being the first point of contact for clients and potential clients, managing communication with opposing counsel, organizing and maintaining digital case files, and supporting the attorney team in preparation for hearings and meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first line of communication by answering incoming calls and directing inquiries professionally and courteously.
  • Manage day-to-day client communication, scheduling consultations, meetings, and hearings.
  • E-file case documents with the appropriate courts and agencies in compliance with Florida law and procedural deadlines.
  • Maintain and organize legal files, including scanning and uploading pleadings into electronic case management systems.
  • Draft and prepare basic family law documents, correspondence, and forms under the supervision of the attorney or senior paralegal.
  • Coordinate calendars to avoid scheduling conflicts and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Provide general administrative support to the managing attorney and paralegal, including preparing materials for hearings and client meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture that prioritizes client service and high-quality legal work.

Qualifications

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of Florida family law and law office professional standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with clients with empathy and professionalism.
  • Proven experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar administrative support role within a law firm.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Clio (or similar legal case management software) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Law, or a related field is preferred but not required.
