JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Low Voltage Systems Estimator FLSA Status: Exempt Department: Office Reports to: Director of Purchasing & Estimating Position Summary: The Low Voltage Systems Estimator role is to estimate and scope out various low voltage systems including Telecommunication, Low Voltage Wiring Systems, AV, CCTV, Burglar, Surveillance, and all other low voltage systems to provide accurate bids. The position will also follow up on projects bid through interaction with the clients. General Purpose: Follow the estimating process, policies, and procedures in the Estimators Handbook to complete an accurate, thorough, and complete estimate on assigned projects. Provide a complete estimate on assigned projects in the range of $250K to $3mm


Essential Job Functions:

  • Review the Turnkey quotes timely for Telecommunications, Low Voltage Wiring Systems, AV, Security Systems, and CCTV and all other low voltage systems for complete scope and competitive pricing. Contact the vendors timely to discuss any discrepancies
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications to develop complete and accurate takeoff
  • Provide post bid follow up on projects; negotiate scope and pricing with clients, provide value engineering and/or scope modifications
  • Remain current in knowledge of innovations and processes on all low voltage products
  • Enter accurate takeoffs in Estimating Software
  • Use Bluebeam or on screen takeoff software for all estimates
  • Provide a complete estimate on assigned jobs timely and accurately
  • Develop relationships with clients to earn their business
  • Complete budgets timely
  • Attend pre-bid walk throughs as required


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) year’s experience estimating low voltage systems.
  • Low Voltage construction experience with knowledge of equipment, specifications, and competitive bidding process.
  • Open, honest, direct communication skills always
  • Very Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize and process large volumes of work in a timely manner.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Computer skills minimum of Intermediate level or better
  • Able to work in a team environment

Nonessential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in all low voltage systems including Telecommunications, Low Voltage Wiring Systems, AV, CCTV, Burglar and Surveillance Systems.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead to produce estimates on all Low Voltage Systems for assigned jobs with a comprehensive understanding of drawings, specifications, and addenda in a timely manner.
  • Maintain current material pricing knowledge
  • Analyze labor needs with a historical perspective to ensure correct assessment for the job
  • Understand and complete all bid forms
  • Prepare all pre-bid correspondence, ie: RFI’s, confirmatory correspondence, and scope
  • Confirm any addendum
  • Establish a contact list of participating GC’s including contact person, decision maker, with e-mail, phone numbers and cell phone numbers
  • Work with purchasing to ensure complete and accurate system quotes
  • Complete accurate bid letter
  • Attend job start up meeting on awarded work
  • Work with PM to complete budget on awarded work
  • Contact GC’s on unsuccessful projects to understand the bid results
  •  Maintain good relationship with clients through regular communication and interaction
  • Maintain knowledge of incoming work from clients
  • Continuously modify and update database reflecting current conditions
  • Additional duties as assigned

 

Work Environment:
